Scheduled Execution Thursday
The New York Times: A 74 year-old man is scheduled for executed in Alabama on Thursday, August 4. James Hubbard has spent 27 years on death row.
James Hubbard is the oldest person on Alabama's death row. Death penalty opponents have asked Gov. Bob Riley to have mercy on Hubbard, who is set to die by injection Thursday for killing a 62-year-old woman in 1977.
Apparently he is suffering from both colon cancer and prostate cancer. Considering that Alabama's death row population has doubled in the past 10 years and that there are 190 people under sentence of death in the state, sadly, it does not look good for Hubbard.
The NCADP is calling for clemency.
