New York State Hearings -- Part Two

As I mentioned before, Beth and I will be attending the hearing in New York City at the Bar Association. There are also hearings in Albany on January 25th. I am not sure the structure of the hearings but we'll be there. We are also doing a screening of Deadline possibly the day before the hearings.

The Daily News wrote an article today about the upcoming hearings. Fairly informational, no real opinions but the comments of the legislators are always interesting (and somewhat amusing):

Death penalty supporters are complaining that an Assembly plan to hold hearings on the state's flawed capital punishment statute is a stalling tactic that will only kill the law.

"This is just an attempt to destroy any chance of fixing the death penalty law," state Conservative Party Chairman Mike Long said yesterday.

This argument is an interesting concept. It seems that supporters of the death penalty are upset by the hearings and are claiming that they are really interested in "fixing" our broken capital punishment system. There main focus is to fix the system quickly to bring it back but one can not fix a capital punishment system quickly.
