U.S. Remains World Leader in Incarceration: At a rate of 714 per 100,000 population, the United States’ rate of incarceration continues to outpace that of all other nations. Second to the U.S. is Russia, with a declining rate of 584 per 100,000. Rates of incarceration in other nations include Mexico (169), England and Wales (141), and Japan (58).
