Aileen-Life and Death of a Serial Killer on HBO
Last week I saw another one of Nick Broomfield's documentaries. (Broomfield made Biggie and Tupac and Kurt and Courtney among others). This one was Aileen Wuornos, The Selling of a Serial Killer. Broomfield has a reputation for being more concerned with the process of documentary filmmaking, rather than the product. So this film is about --the process-- of getting an interview with Aileen Wuornos, who was sentenced to death in Florida, in the early 90s. Twelve years later he made a second film, Aileen-Life and Death of a Serial Killer, which is showing on HBO November 15, at 10:00pm. His website includes plenty of trailers and a list of related organizations for more information.
Both films are powerful statements against the death penalty and raise disturbing questions about executing the mentally insane.
